Ending the Stigma: Graves' Disease
The Story
Grace struggled for over 3 years with unexplained weight loss, tremors, and bulging eyes. In her village, she was stigmatized and accused of witchcraft due to her physical appearance. She was unable to work or care for her children. Healthlinks CSR team identified her during a rural outreach camp. She was immediately referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital under our full sponsorship. After 6 months of treatment, her thyroid levels have normalized, and she has regained her weight and confidence. She is now advocating for others in her community to seek medical help.
Impact
Grace has returned to farming and can now support her 3 children.
